As some of you may know I am a collector of ceramics … not a very big one mind you but whenever I have a chance to go to an ceramic fair or gallery I go.

This is the 4th time we are going to visit Keramisto, a huge international ceramics fair. Since this is an outside affair in a park adjacent to a small lake we allways take the dogs and a big picknick with us. Because believe it or not, whenever we visited Keramisto the weather was beautiful!

A few of my favorites …

Installation by Daniele Schlagenhauf called Resonances I for Musée Palissy, Saint-Avit, France in 2011.

Work by Daniele Schlagenhauf

Keramisto takes place coming weekend, September 17 and 18, 2011 in Milsbeek, The Netherlands.

Around 100 international ceramics presenting their work. For more info see the site of Keramisto

Stand at Keramisto of Petra Bittl

The last photo was found through Mark Smalley a ceramist who presents his beautiful pottery on Flickr. Please take the time to look at his work over here.

Mark recently started his own blog and his work is for sale at Folksy

Once upon a time we lived in a tiny village on the red soil of Georgia in The United States of America. For reasons I never really new, lots of artists and crafts people lived all around us in that area. Was it the cheap housing… the beautiful countryside? Anyway… near our house was this small potters community. Around 15 people mainly from all over the U.S. but I also remember a potter from England, lived in these old small wooden houses with a studio attached to it. Because all the crafts people came from various educational backgrounds, it was interesting to see their different styles. Traditional pottery, colorful, sober, modern and contemporary pottery but also crummy pottery, it was all there. It was a great opportunity for me to learn more about ceramics and I think that is where my love for this discipline started.

I started to collect and until this day I try to visit all the fairs where professional potters sell their craft. One of those fairs is Keramisto. The fair has hundreds of stands with ceramists from all over Europe. This international event takes pace in the southern part of Holland on September 19 and 20.

By the way…I looked up Watkinsville, the tiny village we once lived in. Guess what… these days the village calls itself “The Artland of Georgia,” and has become booming, with posh art galleries and a thriving arts community. And the English potter Geoff Pickett still lives there. WeI I’ll be darned…

The German ceramist Enno Jaekel will be at the potters fair Keramisto
