This afternoon we are packing the car, so we can leave real early tomorrow morning to show our jewelry  at  the Art Fair Buitengewoon Kunst op Nienoord.

Thursday May 17, 2012 we are joining Buitengewoon Kunst op Nienoord in Leek The Netherlands. Its an Artist Fair where about 50 artists and designers will show their work.

Plus coming weekend (and the next) we, among many more craftspeople, artists and designers will participate in the yearly Open Atelier Route Opsterland.

So now I’m putting together a collection of jewelry to take to the Fair on Thursday. It’s an outside affair in the beautiful garden belonging to Borg Nienoord. Lets hope the weather will be sort of decent!

This small silver brooch, with the semi precious gemstone Agate, will be among many other pieces of jewelry we are going to show Thursday at Buitengewoon Kunst op Nienoord.

Recently I was sorting through old images trying to figure out witch to publish in the new site when I came across these 2 pieces of jewelry. Both are made quite long ago and yet I still see them very clearly in my mind.

The pendant was made ​​from the root of an old swamp oak, very special. I still remember who purchased the pendant.

The necklace is sold through a gallery so I don’t know who bought it. The photo of the necklace is not very well, in real life the long necklace was spectacular …

Each of them approaches the subject from a different point of view. Questions about identity, memory and portrayal of women are raised, as well as discussion about the ethics of over consumption of fashion and its consequences on our lives and on the environment.

Through her project The Memory of My Wardrobe, Ida Taavitsainen looks at ‘fashion and the fashion system as something more than just a superficial act of consuming.’

Out of Fashion magazine will be published in London and Helsinki and an exhibition showcasing this work will be held at the Myymala2 Gallery Helsinki later this year.

Watchmaking, on the photo a dial is fashioned

and Silversmithing … in the picture silversmith Hiroshi Suzuki at work raising or forging a silver bowl.

One starts with hammering on a circle of Sterling Silver so the silver raises, in between the hammering rounds the silver is heated by a flame to make it soft again. One bowl takes days of hammering.

My partner Jan Kerkstra and myself are besides Jewelry makers also Silversmiths. We do sterling silver pieces like candle holders, silver bekers and Christening spoons mostly made on order.
The Fries Museum located in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands carries 5 big silver pieces in their permanent collection, made by Jan and me .
