The collections reflect the love for stripes and chocolate licorice and peach candy, the balance between psychedelia and harmony, the 70s classic Great Gatsby movie and 90s rap music and lines and silhouettes drawn with a black marker.

Each of them approaches the subject from a different point of view. Questions about identity, memory and portrayal of women are raised, as well as discussion about the ethics of over consumption of fashion and its consequences on our lives and on the environment.

Through her project The Memory of My Wardrobe, Ida Taavitsainen looks at ‘fashion and the fashion system as something more than just a superficial act of consuming.’

Out of Fashion magazine will be published in London and Helsinki and an exhibition showcasing this work will be held at the Myymala2 Gallery Helsinki later this year.

From 24 March to 23 September 2012, the Groninger Museum will present the first large-scale solo exhibition of the work of Iris van Herpen. The exhibition offers an overview of her work from 2008 to the present.

A selection of her most recent work, such as Capriole and the Micro collection that is to be shown in January 2012, will also be on display.

I’m ashamed to tell that personally I don’t like her clothes all that much. Often I find them it too futuristic and too cold. But I am sure to go to this exhibition, because it is al very inovative!

Dutch designer Iris van Herpen has been pushing the boundaries between fashion and art since her debut at Amsterdam’s International Fashion Week in 2007.

Born in 1984, van Herpen studied fashion design at ARTEZ, Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Before starting her own eponymous label she was an intern at both Alexander McQueen and the Dutch textile designer Claudy Jongstra.

Jan and I are planning on going to visit this exhibition. It’s a large overview of his work, mostly his mobiles and sculptures. I am looking forward to it, I think his work is very inspring.

American-born artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976) is celebrated for his mobiles, stabiles, paintings, objets d’art and jewelry. Did you know that Alexander Calder began making jewelry for his sister’s dolls at age 6?

During his lifetime Calder  produced 1,800 works of jewelry; each one unique, designed by him and made by his own hands. Jewelry made of brass, silver, and gold body ornaments, often embellished with found objects such as beach glass, ceramic shards, and wood.

Many of his jewelry pieces were made as personal gifts for the artist’s family and friends.

Even if he had made nothing else—even if he hadn’t invented wire sculpture, the mobile, performance art—we would look at this body of work as truly remarkable. He would be famous as a studio art jeweler.

Spring is here!

Ingeborg Vandamme lives and works in Amsterdam. In Tilburg she attended the teacher training handicrafts and textile arts. Here she learned a variety of techniques and developed her love for materials.

She then went to the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam where Ingeborg decided to go further in precious metals.

Her work is for sale at the boutique of Cecile van Eeden in Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Hotel The Exchange is an initiative by Lloyd Hotel and the cultural embassy Amsterdam. Students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute dressed the rooms like models on the catwalk.

As a visitor you sleep in fashion and wake up in style…
