Remember this brooch? I bet you do because this is the third time I mention it on my blog.
The other post, which you can see when you click over here, tells about the inspiration for this brooch and were it came from … well, the idea came from walls or sometimes roofs in Belgium and French, which are covered with slate shingles.
The brooch is from the series Big Brooches and is named The Second Wall.
The brooch is made of cedar, copper and silver and is still for sale here or in our Atelier.
Anyway … on to The Shingles Pantry by Field Day. Apparently the same shingles inspired the designers of Field Day but in this case they were Western Red Cedar shingles.
I forgot about that but indeed in the U.S. lots of roofs and sometimes-complete houses are covered with these wooden shingles. Gorgeous cabinet don’t you think? It is built around a solid maple frame and it houses four shelves.

Very beautiful. There are a lot of shingle houses at the coast here because paint doesn’t hold up in the weather. Even metal erodes with the wind blowing sand and salt water in the rain.

Although I lived in the U.S for seven years, I never knew about that Marchi … so that’s why most of the shingles are made of cedar … thanks for telling!
