A few years back designers were invited by the Audex Textiel Museum in Tilburg, The Netherlands to experiment with making yarn from natural materials.
During the process the designers were pleasantly surprised to discover exactly how many natural and plant-based materials could be made into yarns, including potato peelings, peanuts, milk, maize and seaweed.
Jewelry designer Willemijn de Greef made thread and yarn from nettle fibers to created this stunning oversized necklace.

I love the one sheep sweaters! And I love the idea of the nettle necklace but it doesn’t quite sing for me as a design.
