Back from my camping trip in Bretagne, sun tanned, rested, full of inspiration and new ideas…
The German Denise Julia Reytan does a variety of interesting things.
She designs carpets and jewelry and even costumes. I really like the costumes; they are very special and unique.

Her own words about her costumes are: “I design traditional costumes in a new way, as I envisage them today. These costumes represent the environment and the diverse cultures which surround me, my social status and my interests.”

Welcome back!
So pleased you had a restful, inspirational time and now sharing those great ideas once more. Denise’s work, especially the costumes, I love as I too have a fascination with historical fashions and the concept of ‘traditional’ costumes and their reflection of our cultural, social world…and of course the self…
Oh, so glad you are back. You have been missed!

Thanks, Lois!
Glad somebody is happy, I for sure am not too crazy about being back yet… Boy it was great doing nothing for a while…
Yes, when I saw these costumes I had to think about you and the beautiful clothing you make. Although modern, one can detect in most of your clothing a glimpse of the past…

Hi Marion,
Nice post! I like the jewelry and the modern clothes with some past influences.

Thanks Tanneke,
And thank you for pointing out the beautiful new bags of Maria Hees over at Wannekes…

Hi Marion,
Funny, just added the site of Reytan to my favourite websites to check it out once in a while.
I like the photograph with the black lady the best. Their skin like colours so much.
About the costumes I see a cartoon translation of the traditional fashion. Sorry, don’t know how to say it in proper English. Hope you understand.

Thanks for your comment Danielle,
Yes, I do understand want you mean by cartoon translation… maar toch zijn ze niet “over the top” vind ik.

Nee, zeker niet. Dat komt door de eenvoud die er aan toegevoegd is dmv ‘kleurvakken’ volgens mij. Door complexe dingen te vereenvoudigen.
