Those who frequently visit my blog know that I have a weakness for this type
of house. Why this is so I cannot say, simplicity, clean lines, or perhaps the use of wood? This house is indeed, very very basic…

This black wooden barn house designed by Amsterdam Bureau B + B is located on the Groote Scheere estate in Gramsbergen, The Netherlands. The design has clean lines and is very reminiscent of a simple barn. The villa fits nicely into the landscape and traditional materials such as straw are applied in a contemporary way.

The silhouette, well-detailed shutters and original application of reed, are the most remarkable features of the villa.
You’ll find more photographs and the complete story of this beautiful house on the site of the architects. For those interested in architecture there is an informative blog.
The architects call this beautiful Barn house consistently “villa”. I have often come across this name; can anyone tell me why a house that seems
a barn is called “villa”?

Would love to see the interior. I bet it is all open space with a wonderful mezzanine area…
I looked up ‘villa’ and it is just a country house (usually owned by someone with money) so a posh barn?! Certainly desirable.

I had exact the same thought Lois! It is a pity there where no pictures of the inside of the house…
It used to be if someone spoke of a villa they ment a very big stone house and in Dutch cases not always in the country. Any way… I think Villa is a sort of trendy word among architects. Thanks for thinking with me though!
