Last week we made a great canoe trip in nature reserve Rottige Meenthe in southern Friesland, The Netherlands. The weather was beautiful and the small creeks were full of fish spawning. (lay eggs in the reeds)

Our new dog Fons was the first time aboard, but sitting quietly in the canoe as if he had always done so.

On our trip we were suddenly surprised by this cute little building.

At home I looked it up. It is a shelter shed designed by the office of Jelle de Jong Architects of Lemmer, The Netherlands.

The barn is intended for the public of the outdoor Opera Nijetrijne to shelter from the rain.

The building is pretty basic and has a wooden frame and a semi-transparent covering of corrugated iron.

The sides are folded like a canopy that will accommodate two hundred hiding visitors.

What an absolutely wonderful way to spend a day. Looks so beautiful, so peaceful. And can you imagine stopping off to have a picnic and listen to the opera. Quite idyllic.

It was such beautiful weather, so instead of working we took this trip. A good idea because this week it is very cold and raining again!
