For some reason Mara Skujeniece got lost in my list of posts to make.
Because Mara quite recently had an article in VT wonen, she was often shown
lately on various blogs.
So sorry … I am a bit slow to mention her name but I do hope that she is for most of you a new name. I find her work extremely attractive, particularly her ‘primitive’ Barn drawings I like.
Mara Skujeniece lives and works in Amsterdam. She designs furniture and interior products, and specializes in ceramics.
Her inspiration Mara often derives from her Latvian roots. In her work, for example, you often see a Latvian barn. The barn is in fact the ultimate symbol of the Latvian national character. Skujeniece is currently a lecturer at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
The design of this white ceramic was inspired by the forms and structures of industrial yarn bobbins used in the weaving or knitting of fabrics.

Latvian sheds are a reocurring theme in her work

Definitely a new name for me and, of course, I really like her work and simple, clean website. I love the barn cabinets and I can already see the Hyper bowl sitting on my kitchen shelf.
