Last Sunday while walking the dogs, this romantic building loomed up in the mist. Though I am a person who likes modern architecture, this picture is pretty like a postcard don’t you think? This country estate is named de Slotplaats and is situated on the edge of Bakkeveen, a little town in Friesland, The Netherlands.
Build as a farm in the 18e century it ones belonged to the former castle Het Blauwhuus. The owner was the so-called grietman Aylva van Burmania. In the 1920’s baron Johan van Harinxma drastically renovated the place and nowadays it looks more like a villa than a farm.
By the way, at present de Slotplaats is in use as a teahouse where one can eat delicious homemade muffins!

Brrr! Marion, it looks so cold yet when I spotted the muffins I pulled up a chair and ordered the coffee.
Superb building and with a bell tower?
You dog looks so alert, he’s a beauty – and what an amazing tree, do you know how old it is?

It looks like a tiny castle and indeed with a bell tower. I could not find any info on the bell. The birches in the woods around the Slotplaats are about 250 yeears old!
