I spent an enjoyable day in Arnhem but when I go back to Holland I’d love to plan it so I can visit one of your exhibitions. What happened in 1965 that caused designers to revolt against tradition? Whatever it was it’s very exciting. When you spend a lot of time looking at the ‘norm’ it’s invigorating to see such unique creativity.

Thanks for your interest Jennifer. In the sixties almost everyone revolted against something…So also against status symbols. People tend to like (still do) a piece of jewelry because it is made of gold or has diamonds in it. In other words; it is expensive, so it must be beautiful… Dutch jewelry designers were the first to use inexpensive materials like aluminum or plexiglas.
